The client rebuilt their own home on this property 20 years ago. Now, as their family grows and ages, they need additional space in the rear yard. In the spirit of DIY and ‘rasquachismo,’ the clients referred to their strong ties to communities in Tijuana, Mexico as inspiration for building and making. The ADU design therefore offers flexibility for customization, hybridization and collaboration among client, designer, and builder.
