Filion Street, Glendale CA

The owners of this hillside home in Northeast LA needed to accommodate for an older relative living at their home — with a garage-converted ADU. Keeping with the general scale and proportion of the home, they also needed an updated interior and outdoor deck revamp including new floors, larger bathrooms, new tile, fireplace and solar panels with car charging capability.

The landscape was redesigned to reduce water consumption, and to move certain “dry” plants like grasses away from the home for fire mitigation measures.

The owners — both having traveled to Mexico frequently throughout their lives — wanted to utilize the artisanal handicrafts of Mexican tile work, if possible. WGA incorporated a hand made Mexican tile cladding on the ADU’s exterior at the street for a unique but warm rendition of this vernacular style.
